Reykjavik, October 14, 2023 - In the nearly three years since Hringekjan opened its doors in January 2020, it has been hosting regular music events under the name Hringekjan Live Sessions. In this short time, Hringekjan has created a stage for a diverse group of magnificent musicians, both local and international, establishing a unique musical environment for city residents and visitors. The concept behind these events has been a different musical experience and innovation, becoming one of the store's distinctive features.
Recently, Hringekjan received a grant from the Technology Development Fund of Rannís, which will support an exciting project exploring new ways to connect music, technology, and community. "We at Hringekjan are genuinely pleased with this recognition and hope to further enhance the joyous message of music and cultural life in the city with this support from Rannís," says Davíð Örn Jóhannsson, co-owner of Hringekjan.
Hringekjan is not just a venue for music but also an eco-friendly circular store offering apparel and accessories, creating a special context between music, design, eco-friendly operations, and community. Located in the heart of Reykjavik at Þórunnartúni 2, we provide a warm reception and a comfortable environment where consumers can reduce their carbon footprint and recycle their unused clothing circle after circle, receiving a share of the sales.
In our opening year 2021, we were recognized as the best newcomer in the Second-Hand stores category by Reykjavik Grapevine, and in 2022 and 2023, we proudly received the title of Best Second-Hand Store in Reykjavik, demonstrating that small initiatives like Hringekjan can genuinely impact the community.
Now it's time to celebrate these enjoyable milestones, and what could be better than doing it with music? This coming Saturday, October 14, Hringekjan will host its sixtieth music event in the Hringekjan Live Sessions series. This time, none other than Teitur Magnússon will celebrate this milestone with us. He is passionate about vinyl records and will play his favorite records for us on this enjoyable day, says Jana Maren Óskarsdóttir, co-owner of Hringekjan.
