Ásthildur Hannesdóttir interviewed Davíð, the other owner of the carousel, on behalf of Smartlands on mbl.is - Photos mbl.is/Árni Sæberg
David is a very colorful character and it is clearly visible in his clothing style. He says he enjoys dressing up and is not afraid to stand out from the crowd. And he says he does not follow any particular trends and says he enjoys dressing up for various occasions. The outfits vary depending on the occasion, situation, mood, weather or whatever and he sees the choice of clothes as a kind of costume design for the stage of life.
What is fashion in your mind?
"Fashion is largely a herd behavior in my opinion where everyone is competing to follow their neighbor, but for me it is an opportunity to get rid of stereotypes and come to the door like a colorful clown if and when appropriate, with fashion you have the opportunity to express yourself as you feel at any given time. The more colors, the better."

Davíð says there is a big difference in selection when looking at men's and women's clothing.
“This small selection often comes down to a color-loving person like me,” says Davíð, who mostly buys her clothes in thrift stores or flea markets. “I don’t know how many times I’ve walked up to a crazy colorful garment and then realized it’s a women’s garment and not available in a smaller size,” explains Davíð. “I’m often told, ‘This is only available in women’s sizes,’ while I’m putting on a colorful garment that isn’t intended for my gender. Maybe the garment is a little too sloppy for me, but who cares?” says Davíð, who wants to erase gender stereotypes when it comes to clothing.
How do you dress on a daily basis?
"If I were to try to describe it myself, it's a pretty casual outfit, a T-shirt, a dress shirt and jeans, but always in color. I fell in love with the fleece sweater I got as a Christmas present from the woman in the weather who has been here since the beginning of the year. The fleece sweater paired with a cool vintage bomber jacket has gotten me a long way this winter."
"For me, colors in everyday environments are very important, whether they are in clothing, architecture, or any design. Colors have a direct impact on our well-being," says Davíð.

Worst clothes purchase?
"Most everything I bought around 2000. I can't possibly describe how bad I felt about most everything I bought around that time. Polyester and the cold sweat that came with it are my worst memories of the turn of the century."
Best clothes purchase?
"I've made quite a few good purchases recently at Hringekjan, but I have to say that the best one so far is the Pilot jumpsuit I bought last summer. I seem to have missed the information about how ridiculously comfortable it is to dance in a jumpsuit. It's a good thing that I feel like jumpsuits have been deliberately kept from me over time."
